Professor of Theater History at the University of Turin, from 1972 to 2012, first as teacher on annual contract, then as associate professor and from 1986 as full professor. Since leaving his roles until the 2022-2023 academic year, he has taught as a contract professor of Nordic Languages, Literatures and Comparative Literature at the same University of Turin. Visiting Professor at the Universities of Saint-Etienne, Clermont-Ferrand, Besançon, Lyon, Lille, Paris 3, he has repeatedly been Director of Department, President of Degree Course, Dean of Faculty, President of the association of Italian university theater teachers . He promoted the birth of the DAMS (Artistic, Musical and Spectacle Disciplines) at the University of Turin, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Teatro Regio of Turin from 1996 to 1998 and President of the IRRE (Regional Institute for Educational Research) of Piedmont from 2002 to 2005. He has published over 35 books with the major Italian publishers (Carocci Einaudi Garzanti Laterza Marsilio Mondadori Olschki Rizzoli Utet) in which he dealt with theater between the sixteenth and twentieth centuries, dedicating many to Pirandello Ibsen Goldoni. In 1988 he founded the theater magazine “Il Castello di Elsinore”, which he still directs, as well as a Pirandellian magazine (“Angelo di Fuoco”, 2002-2004) and a magazine in English reserved for Scandinavian culture (“North-West Passage”, 2004-2012). He directed Storia del teatro moderno e contemporaneo (4 voll., Einaudi 2000-2003). The last books: the Discesa nell’inferno familiare.
